This accident, involving 3 vehicles occurred on Monday, March 1st 2021 at approximately 10:33 pm. The driver of blue Peterbilt (2006) following too close / acda. Injuries were reported. An officer from Columbus Police Department was present at the scene and recorded the information contained in this report.
Units #1 and #3 had been involved in a previous property damage only crash on Interstate (IR) 270 northbound (NB); south of IR 70 (reference crash report #########). Unit #1 came to rest on the IR 270 NB right (east) shoulder facing southwest with the front of the car partially in the right lane of IR 270 NB. Unit #3 stopped on the right (east) shoulder of IR 270 NB. Unit #2 then approached in the right lane of IR 270 NB south of IR 70. Unit #2 struck the driver side front of Unit #1; which was extending into the right lane of IR 270 NB. Witness #2; who was standing at the driver side door of Unit #1 at the time of the crash; stated the collision between Units #1 and #2 caused the occupant/driver of Unit #1 to be ejected from Unit #1. Witness #1 stated the driver side front door of Unit #1 was open at the time of impact. Unit #1 occupant/driver came to rest in the right lane of IR 270 NB. The trailer of Unit 32 then overran the body of occupant/driver #1. Unit #2 then veered onto the right (east) shoulder of IR 270 and struck/sideswiped Unit #3 (driver side).Witness #1 stated another (unidentified) car followed Unit #2 through the debris field; to include the body of the (former) occupant/driver #1. This unidentified vehicle continued northbound on IR 270 without stopping. (continued)
